| E-Mail for Life Junk Mail Filtering
Follow the steps below to personalize your E-Mail for Life junk mail filter. These instructions apply to both forwarding-only and enhanced accounts.
1. First, login into your EMFL account.
Login to your E-Mail for Life account through @RPInet at https://arpinet.rpi.edu, using your E-Mail for Life user ID and password. Click the E-Mail for Life option, then click the link that says “Click here to login into your E-Mail for Life account.”
2. Next, choose how you would like mail tagged as "junk mail" to be handled.
Click “Options” on the bottom of the blue bar on the left of your screen. Under the “Mail Management” heading in the center of the screen, click “Junk Mail.” You have several choices as to how you would like your mail handled.
- To have the mail that CommTouch has flagged as junk mail delivered to a “Junk Mail” folder in your inbox:
Choose the first option, Deliver Spam to Junk Folder. (Spam gets deleted from the junk mail folder after 7 days). With this option, you may then set rules on what e-mail is sent through to your inbox (or sent on to your forwarding address if you have a forwarding account), and you may go weekly into your Junk Mail folder to delete junk mail and retrieve any mail you wish to keep.
- To turn the junk mail filter OFF, and receive ALL mail sent to your inbox (including anything the CommTouch filter tags as spam):
Select the second option, Deliver Spam to Inbox (Turn off Junk Mail filtering). This will also ensure that all mail, including anything tagged as junk mail by CommTouch, will be sent on to a forwarding account.
- To have the Mail2World filter delete everything that CommTouch has flagged as “junk mail,” so that NONE of it reaches your inbox:
Choose the third option, No Spam Delivery (Delete all Spam).
- To have ONLY mail from senders you specify as "safe" delivered to your inbox:
You will also see an option for “Exclusive Delivery Options” at the bottom of the screen. There you may choose to either keep the “Default” setting, where most junk mail will be caught and screened out of your inbox as described above, or “Exclusive,” where ONLY senders and domains that you have chosen will be accepted into your inbox.
When you have made your choices, click “Save.”
3. Finally, set up "rules" for always accepting or always blocking e-mail from certain sources:
Click on “Options” on the bottom of the blue bar on the left of your screen.
- Block List
Under the “Mail Management” heading in the center of the screen, click on “Block List” to add senders or domains to the list of places you DO NOT wish to receive e-mail from.
- Safe List
Under the “Mail Management” heading in the center of the screen, click on “Safe List” to add senders or domains to the list of places you ALWAYS wish to receive e-mail from.
NOTE: For those who are using the Web mail interface, when a message comes into your inbox, open it, and you will see options in the headings there to set preferences for that sender or domain.
