Why Does Rensselaer Need Your Support?

Alumni participation influences our rankings in U.S.News and World Report.  Our overall alumni participation rate was just 24 percent last year, far behind our peer institutions like Rice, Duke, and Dartmouth.  By participating today, you will have a positive effect on our rankings while influencing the value of your degree.  Click here to learn more about our recent rankings, and how Rensselaer was named one of the 25 “New Ivies!”

Your participation matters!  Rensselaer needs your support at any level—$10, $25, $50—every gift counts.

Current students need you!  Loans are a part of life, but you can help current students reduce their debt by giving today.  Your gift will support student scholarships and help students succeed in and out of the classroom.

Your gift counts toward Renaissance at Rensselaer: The Campaign for Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and, if you’re celebrating your Reunion, your class gift total.

Remember, gifts to the Rensselaer Annual Fund help to support areas of the school that recent graduates care about, like athletics, student programs and activities, scholarships, and more!

Get Involved with the Rensselaer Young Alumni Council!
There are two ways you can become involved with the Young Alumni Council; the first is to become a council member and the second is to become a volunteer.

Volunteers
Volunteers are the most important piece of what the YAC does. They are the alumni who give their own time to help the committees reach their individual goals. The beauty of volunteering to participate on a committee is that you can stay involved with Rensselaer without a large time commitment.  Please review the committee descriptions below to determine which committee is the best fit for you.

If you think you’ve found a match and would like to become involved as a volunteer for the Young Alumni Council please click here for a volunteer application form, which you may print out and return to Office of Alumni Relations, Heffner Alumni House, 1301 Peoples Avenue, Troy, NY 12180 or send via e-mail to alumni@rpi.edu.

Council Members
A member of the Young Alumni Council must be an alumnus/a who has graduated within the past 10 years from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute.  All alumni interested in becoming a Young Alumni Council Member must complete an application form to be reviewed by a group of Council members and representatives of the Institute.

While serving on the Council each member is required to come back to campus two times every year to participate in full Council meetings.  Members are also required to serve on at least one committee. Please review the committee descriptions below to determine which committee is the best fit for you!

If you think you’ve found a match please download and complete the Young Alumni Council membership form. When completed this form should be mailed to the alumni office at alumni@rpi.edu so it may be reviewed by the Council.

Application forms are no longer being accepted for the current year; however, nominations of alumni who would be an asset to the YAC are accepted at any time throughout the year. E-mail the alumni office at alumni@rpi.edu to make a nomination.

Committee Descriptions:

The Events Committee
This committee is dedicated to bringing fun and relevant networking events targeted specifically to recent RPI alums.  The committee explores, develops, and executes new events, and then work with regional chapters in order to reach young alumni and encourage them to participate in the events. The committee will conduct most business during bi-monthly conference calls.  The projects that are adopted by the committee require time outside of the bi-monthly meeting and may include attendance to specific young alumni events. Our committee members are also asked to develop and implement new programs, assist in informing other young alumnus/seniors of the events and encouraging them to attend events, and provide support on an ad hoc basis.

The Recruitment Committee
This committee is responsible for attracting new members and committee volunteers to the Council. It oversees the application procedures and requirements as well as the selection process of all Young Alumni Council members. Part of this committee’s role is to excite and energize young alumni to engage in Rensselaer activities, specifically the Young Alumni Council.  Committee members are expected to be involved closely with the selection process of all Young Alumni Council Members resulting in specific time commitment centering on this process.  There is also a time commitment involved with attracting new Young Alumni Council Members as well as committee volunteers. The committee will conduct most business during bi-monthly conference calls. The projects adopted by the committee require time outside of the bi-monthly meeting and may include attendance at specific young alumni events.

The Young Patroon Committee
This committee is responsible for increasing the young alumni donor participation in Rensselaer’s Annual Fund. To this aim, the Young Patroon committee works with Rensselaer’s Annual Fund staff to help establish successful fundraising policies, provide relevant advice and feedback, participate in soliciting gifts, and develop new and innovative approaches to increasing Annual Fund participation. The committee will conduct most business during bi-monthly conference calls.  The projects that are adopted by the committee require time outside of the bi-monthly meeting.

The Reunion Committee
This committee is responsible for increasing young alumni attendance at Reunion.  This committee will work with individual class reunion committees as well as the Office of Alumni Relations to ensure relevant programming is offered and attendance is high. The committee will conduct most business during bi-monthly conference calls.  The projects that are adopted by the committee require time outside of the bi-monthly meeting and may include attendance to specific young alumni events.
