AIGC Compliance Training Plan Proposal
Safety/Fire Protection/Sanitation
OBJECTIVE
To provide the Greek community with guidance (materials, training, references etc.) to facilitate its compliance with safety, fire protection and sanitation requirements. The Program Guide Draft can be found in this MSWord Document link.
ISSUES/PROBLEMS
· Some Greek organizations have weak alumni leadership so there will be little initiative to make improvements.
· Many organizations lack funds to make capital improvements.
· Some organizations have a lack of skills (design, contracting) or resources to implement improvements or obtain services.
· Students will resist any initiative that requires more work, added cost or activity restrictions.
· An educational program cannot rely on current alumni skills because of volunteer turnover, distance and few people with the necessary technical knowledge.
STRATEGIES
· Target some training on alumni leaders (capital programs, structural issues, finances, contracted services and overall scope) and some on active chapters (maintenance, procedures and general operations).
· Encourage participations with:
Performance awards
Regular inspections
Penalties for non-participation or non-conformance
· Develop a documented program that is easy to repeat and can be presented by any non-technical volunteer willing to read the material.
· Engage RPI staff experts in programs to assure continuity, expert advice and availability. Get DOSO support for assuring this participation.
· Document and formalize RPI financial assistance available, if needed, for capital improvements required.
· Assist chapters in developing a budget and rent level that will support required services and improvements.
· Force chapter alumni participation in the AIGC program using loss of chapter recognition and social probation as leverage.
· Annually, because of turnover, provide a reference package to the actives and alumni of each chapter for their reference.
· Use the newly required position of chapter Risk Manager as the focal point for active chapter involvement. This is a mandatory position in the revised Relationship Statement.

SANITATION
· Review equipment and procedures for kitchen and bathroom cleaning and food handling.
·
· Engage RPI food service contractor and/or county health services
· Provide brochures, samples (like colored cutting boards) and local sourcing.
TRAINING SESSIONS
· Consider holding a session early in the fall semester and taking the afternoon of the AIGC meeting day. Have active chapter representatives also. Invite chapter risk managers, safety chairs, stewards, house managers and related responsible people.
· It is too big an effort to hold these sessions again for those who missed. The RS states that they are on social probation if not properly represented. Hold again the beginning of the second semester if necessary.
