I was stunned to receive the news of the death of our classmate, Jared Haft Goldstein. He was one of two practicing physicians in Randleman, NC who died unexpectedly on September 5, 1991 after discovering he had cancer one month earlier. Jared was a man with many talents; he loved nature, studied botany, was an authority on Charles Darwin, and published articles on medical ethics. I've included an excerpt from his self written eulogy. "Now that I'm personally involved I see that the critical issue with the dying person, at least with this potentially dying one, is grieving for the grief of others and the relationships in my life rather than my own life as such. My grieving is centered around my family and friends." Jared is survived by his wife, Dr Patricia Chamberlin, son Seth, and daughter Anna.
