I received a note from Scott Mackler correcting the September class notes. Scott's company Clestra is located in North Syracuse, New York and he resides in Fayetteville, a suburb of Syracuse. He works with John Borgiset '65, Dave Mandel '78, and Mike Lynch '87. His neighbors include Jim Miller '56 and Rob Zrockman '66. Jim Flaherty is still performing his presidential imitations. The last correspondence I received from Jim incidated that he was at the Stand-Up Comedy Cafe in Boston.
While helping with the Rochester Phon-a-thon, I talked with Mitchell Marder who is working for NY Telephone. He and his wife Mara have two children, Sammy (1) and Max (3). I also talked with Michael Davi who has been with the GE Gas Turbine Division in Schnectady since graduation. His job has involved a lot of travel including Australia and Singapore. Michael still has ties with Rensselaer through the RPI Focus Program.
Robert Falaguerra is the new vice president for plant operations and construction at St. Francis Hospital an Medical Center. He lives in Pound Ridge, New York. Francis Offermann is the director of air quality services at Indoor Environmental Engineering in San Francisco, California. He co-authored an article on the "Performance of air cleaners in a residential forced air system" in the July 1992 issue of the ASHRAE Journal.
Warren Silverman was recently named the new Medical Director of the Emergency Department at the Community Hospital of Schoharie County, New York. Warren has a wide range of clinical and medical administrative experience. The Water Pollution Control Authority hired John Kostyla as its superintendent to run Stonington's three sewer plants. John had the experience and proper license required by the state of Connecticut. Stephen Derby was recently named part-time chief rehabilitation engineer for research and development for the Center for the Disabled. Steve is a full-time associate professor of mechanical engineering at Rensselaer. Richard Cabot is President-Elect of the Audio Engineering Society (AES). Rich is a fellow of the AES and a founding member of the Portland Section. Alan Mildenberger continues to climb the corporate ladder at Westvaco with his latest promotion to Assistant Paper Mill Superintendent at the Covington, Virginia plant. Alan and his wife Debbie, reside in Alleghany County.
I am proud to announce that Lynn and I became the proud parents of our first child, Brandon Michael. He was born on February 7 weighing in at 7 lb 1 oz.
William Dean has been promoted to lieutenant colonel in the Air Force. Bill is the chief of F-22 Integrated System Test. The firm of Dave Sadowsky, Architect PC has been chosen to provide full architectural services for the planned $10 million Annie Schaffer Senior Housing Complex to be constructed in Schenectady. Dave's four person firm specializes in socially energy efficient designs for the public and private sector. His Petersburgh home has a passive solar system, which with one cord of wood each winter is the only heat source. Ira Tackel was featured in the Philadelphia Business Journal as one of "Forty of the Delaware Valley's rising young business leaders". He is the director of department of biomedical instrumentation at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital overseeing clinical engineering not only at his own hospital but at eleven other institutions. Ira resides in Fort Washington, Pennsylvania and is an avid scuba diver and underwater photographer. Steven Daigle has joined Schenectady International's chemical division as an international account manager. Steve previously worked as vice president of international consulting for Kline and Co.
Bill Stanley writes that he is thoroughly enjoying his past two years in the nuclear engineering section at Three Mile Island. He is still married to Mary Anne (College of St Rose '76), trying to ride herd on their four children (ages 14, 11, 6, and 2). Bill is managing to do some volunteer work and teach fluids and thermo (!) for the EIT review course given by the Harrisburg campus of Penn State. They live in Mount Joy, Pennsylvania. I received the news of the arrival of Ryan Andrew Schell on August 5th to Andy Schell and Dr. Bernie Schell '77. Ryan has two sisters, Jennifer and Mandy, and one brother, Brendan. Andy is a consultant engineer at Trow Consulting. Rumor has it that Andy has already measured Ryan for his first set of hockey goalie pads. They reside in Sudbury, Ontario.
Robert Badger, an operational manager of the rail and waterways group for Clough, Harbour & Associates, an Albany-based engineering firm, has been named an associate. He formerly served as assistant division engineer and senior industrial engineer at Consolidated Rail Corp. He lives in Selkirk, New York.
